Le Pianelle

Dieter Heuskel and Peter Dipoli bought Le Pianelle, a then- abandoned vineyard in Alto Piemonte, in December 2004. Over the years they acquired surrounding parcels of land, numbering over 50 today. In 2007 and 2008, two vineyards were replanted to cover a total of nearly 10 acres. La Pianelle’s grape of choice is Nebbiolo, in addition to two local varieties, Croatina and Vespolina. Just weeks before the first harvest in 2010, Dieter and Peter acquired an old house in the historic center of Brusnengo, and prepared the cellar for their first yield. It is here that they make their wines: a Rosato, Al Posto dei Fiori, and a red Bramaterra. With Le Pianelle, their dream has become reality. The vineyards are located in the towns of Brusnengo and Roasio, stretching from the rice fields of the Po Valley to a range of hills of 500–650 to 1,800 meters above sea level, which finally reach the peak of Monte Rosa.

This is another great Alto Piemonte gem made by one of our favourite enologists, Cristiano Garella. With La Pianelle, Cristiano works with Nebbiolo, Vespolina, and Croatina, to obtain fantastic wines from the Bramaterra DOC. Wines from Alto Piemonte are leaner and more delicate than their counterparts in the Barolo and Barbaresco areas and we find them completely mesmerizing.
