Trediberri

Combining the talents of father and son to revive some of Piedmont's finest vineyards, Trediberri is staking a claim as the next great producer of traditionalist Barolo.

Federico Oberto worked for four decades with the late Renato Ratti, an innovator who spearheaded the introduction of Barolo's single-vineyard crus. His son Nicola brings an inquisitive mind and passion for the great wines of the world.

Trediberri combines the jewels of the Oberto family holdings on the prized hill of Rocche dell'Annunziata with 5ha of reclaimed land in Berri. Taking a historic-meets-modern approach, Nicola uses tressage – the laborious, highly skilled practice of braiding the vine canopy, pioneered by Lalou Bize-Leroy – to grow organic fruit from Langhe varieties.

Building on traditional Piedmontese techniques of long, slow fermentation and extended ageing in barrel, Nicola crafts pure and elegant Barolos which offer intoxicating perfumes and fine, gravelly tannins. Equal attention should be given to Trediberri's Langhe Nebbiolo and Barbera d'Alba, as well as a Dolcetto from Dogliani, which combine the freshness of fruit sourced from high elevation vines with impressive structure and personality.
