The San Nicolo vineyard is only half a hectare in size, very steep with supporting dry stone terraced walls, on the side of a 12,000 year old spent crater. All of the vines in the vineyard are ungrafted. This site shows elegant red fruit and flowers, balanced with rich minerality.
93 points Eric Guido (Vinous): "The 2019 Rosso San Nicolo' is darkly floral and savory in the glass, mixing cherry and plum sauce with dried violets and a hint of cedar spice box. This washes across the palate effortlessly, more like juice than wine, pleasing with its interplay of ripe red fruits and sour citrus tones that create a push and pull of tension. The San Nicolo lingers long while keeping the energy high, with round tannins that frame the expression and a lasting note of licorice that seems to carry on for up to a minute. This is a blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio. Drink: 2022-2027. (Jun 2022)"
93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of fresh mint, baked cherry and eucalyptus. Medium-bodied with silky tannins. Rather complex. An array of savory ground spice colors the blue and red berry-fruited palate. There is balance between the two. Best from 2024. (8/17/22)"
