Silver Medal Winner, (92 points) at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
So this is a take on Nebbiolo, (the same grape that is responsible for Barolo and Barbaresco), but because it is grown across the river in the less famous Roero region, the prices are not as high as Barolo. Even so, it is a still a wonderful wine, and one of the hidden gems of Piemonte, mainly sold by passionate ambassadors who have fallen in love with the potential the Roero has to offer. Here, Nebbiolo is distinguished for producing red wines of elegance and finesse.
A wonderful wine with a ruby colour, fragrant scent with fruity strains of strawberry, cherry, spices and undertones of liquorice. The taste is dry and decisive, justly tannic and full bodied, and capable of some medium term ageing over the next 3- 5years.
Excellent with fully flavoured dishes, it goes well with roasted red meats, especially with game. Or just enjoy whilst listening to Beethoven’s Piano Trios.
So why not snap up a relative bargain, and see why the reds of the Roero are rapidly becoming a great alternative to the more expensive Barolo on the market, especially Barolo that are of the more average quality. Hence its nickname as a baby Barolo. As they say in Piemonte, a great Roero Riserva is more enjoyable and far better value than an average Barolo, so why not give yourself a treat.
